BEKA Schréder Overview

BEKA Schréder (Pty) Ltd is Africa’s leading manufacturer of luminaires and Glass Fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) poles.

Our mission is to deliver optimal lighting solutions by refining the optical and mechanical design of luminaires. By leveraging advanced technologies, we aim to provide intelligent, sustainable lighting systems that minimize energy consumption and lower the overall cost of ownership.

Founded in 1978 in Namibia, a region with one of the world’s most corrosive climates, our initial focus was on producing corrosion-resistant GRP poles and public lighting luminaires. These durable products quickly established themselves as long-term solutions for harsh coastal and inland conditions. In 1981, following our success in Namibia and South Africa, we relocated our head office and factory to Olifantsfontein in South Africa – a strategic industrial hub between Johannesburg and Pretoria.

In 1989, we became South Africa’s first lighting company to obtain ISO 9001 certification, marking our commitment to quality. This dedication has solidified our reputation as Africa’s largest lighting manufacturer and a leader in exterior lighting. Today, we hold both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.

BEKA Schréder Bursary 2025 for Tertiary Fees

Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies within the following fields:

• Accounting
• Engineering
• Finance
• Human Resources
• Information Technology
• Logistics
• Marketing
• Supply Chain

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation and meals, up to a maximum value of R75 000.

Bursaries are awarded for 1 year at a time and students should reapply for funding each year, which will be awarded dependent on academic results.

Students will be able to take part in vacation work or practical training each year.

Shortlisted/ successful candidates will be contacted within 3 weeks of applying.

Who is Eligible to Apply

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
• You must be studying or intend on studying full–time, towards an undergraduate qualification with one of the fields of study listed above
• You must be studying or intend on studying at an institution accredited by the Department of Higher Education (DHET)
• You must have a strong academic record
• You must NOT receive any other bursary or financial assistance from any other company, unless with the written consent from BEKA Schréder
