Things to Consider Before Cancel Nsfas
Cancellation of NSFAS funding is a crucial step in the change process. Consider the following points:
- Effect On Education: Funding from NSFAS helps you in every way with your studies. Cancellations may have financial implications as you will be required to pay for tuition, housing, and other necessary costs.
- Repaying NSFAS Loan: In case you have already accessed a NSFAS loan funding (which, while called “funding,” is considered a loan), then the moment you graduate or walk away from your studies, you will be expected to pay it back. Cancellation may push back your repayment period.
- Other Available Funding Options: Consider funding other than NSFAS such as bursaries maturity, scholarships or even part of a job unpaid internship before yanking off NSFAS.
- Qualification for SRD Grant: Check if you qualify for the SRD grant before you ask for NSFAS cancellation. These can be accessed on the SASSA website.
Can I receive both NSFAS and the SRD grant?
Not at all. It is impossible to access funds from the NSFAS and the SRD program at the same time.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is intended to assist students that are registered, while the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is for unemployed South Africans who are in financial distress.
