SAPS Vacancies Requirements
1. Be South African
2. Be proficient in at least English and one other official language
3. Between eighteen (18) and under thirty (30) years of age
4. Have no previous criminal convictions and shall allow his or her fingerprints to be taken and background enquiries to be made
5. Not have any tattoo marks of which will be visible and irreconcilable with the objectives of the Service
6. Be prepared to take the oath of office
7. Complete a medical examination
8. Complete physical fitness assessment
9. Undergo a psychological and integrity assessment as determined by the National
10. Commissioner and be found to comply with the profile of a police official
11. Be prepared to undergo such training as determined by the National Commissioner
12. Be prepared to serve and be trained anywhere in the Republic of South Africa Body Mass Index of less than 30 / or Waist circumference ≤ 102 cm (males) and ≤ 88 cm (females)
Core Functions: Successful candidates will serve as functional
police officials. As such, they will be deployed to carry out one or more of the following functions:
- Prevent, combat and investigate crime,
- Maintain public order,
- Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property,
- Uphold and enforce the law.
13. All applicants will be subjected to fitness, psychometric and integrity testing as well as medical evaluation and will be interviewed during the recruitment, selection and enlistment process. The SAPS will also verify the criminal record, qualifications, driver’s license, citizenship and residential address of each applicant.
14. Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security
screening and fingerprint verification.
15.Applicants who previously served in a Government Department and who were dismissed as a result of misconduct are excluded.
16. In view of the physical demands of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme, applicants with chronic diseases, physical impairments or any other health condition that may lead to interruption of the training programme, will be excluded from participation in the programme.
17. Such applicants’ failure to disclose the conditions will result in their withdrawal from the programme on the determination thereof.
How To Complete A SAPS Application Form

- Province & Nearest Police Station: Indicate the province you reside in and the closest police station to your residence.
- Personal Information:
- PERSAL/FORCE Number: If you currently serve in the SAPS, SANDF, or another Public Service Department, provide your PERSAL or FORCE number.
- Surname & First Names: Clearly write down your full names.
- Identity Number, Age, Cellphone, Email: Provide your identity number, age, and contact details.
- Race & Gender: Tick the appropriate box corresponding to your racial background and gender.
- Physical Address: Write your full home address.
- Driver’s License: Indicate if you possess a driver’s license, its code, and its expiry date.
- Qualifications:
- Confirm if you possess a Senior Certificate/Grade 12 or National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4. Specify the aggregate/symbol you obtained in English during your Senior Certificate.
- If you possess an NQF 6 Diploma/Degree (post-school qualification), state it. Specify the type of degree, diploma, or vocational certificate.
- General Questions:
- Answer a series of yes/no questions pertaining to your citizenship, physical or mental disabilities, criminal or departmental offenses, tattoos, previous public service employment, and involvement in outside businesses or conflicts of interest.
- For some questions, additional details are required, such as specifying the type of disability, detailing a criminal offense, indicating the position of a tattoo, or explaining an outside business or conflict of interest.
- Declaration:
- Read and understand the declaration which encompasses the limitations of available posts, selection processes, and consent for checks and screenings. It also captures the acknowledgment that undergoing the selection processes doesn’t guarantee an appointment.
- Fill in the date, place, and then affix your signature to authenticate the information you’ve provided.
