How to Apply for a Replacement of Your Damaged or Lost Matric Certificate

  • Pay the prescribed fee by postal order at the Post Office, cash at DBE / PED office or by cheque.

    • The original identity document (ID) and a certified copy.
  • Alternatively you can download form, Application for a Replacement Certificate Std’s 5,6,7,8,9,10 or Grade 12, fill it in and post it with the attached documents including the postal order to: Private Bag X895, Pretoria, 0001

How Can I Get My Matric Certificate Without Going To School?

You can get your Matric Certificate without going to school by applying for it at a distance-learning college such as Bellview Institute of Distance Learning.

You can complete your Matric certificate while studying from home and write your examinations at an exam venue closest to your home. There is no need to attend in-person classes, or complete tests and assignments.

How long does it take?

It takes between four to six weeks for a Replacement certificate to be issued (for records on the system). You can obtain your statement of results immediately.

For records not on the system, it will take longer as records needs to be retrieved from the Archives and loaded on the system.

  • Replacement certificate: R107.00
  • Statement of results: additional R45.00

How Do I Apply For A Lost Matric Certificate?

You can apply for the re-issuing of your lost or damaged Matric certificate online on the e-services portal. You must either log in with your profile or create an account. In addition, you must obtain the application form from your Provincial Education Department (PED). Here is the application form for the Western Cape, for example.

You will need to upload the necessary information and documents and your proof of payment, which can be done at a post office or online. After you have submitted all of this information, you must wait for your application to be processed. The processing time will be between four (4) and six (6) weeks.

Your Matric certificate will then be delivered to you by courier services for an additional fee, or you can pick it up.
