What SASSA Child Grant
The SASSA Child Support Grant is a monthly payment provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to primary caregivers of children under the age of 18 (or 18 years old but still in school).
What is the SASSA child support grant test?
The mean test evaluates the applicants for the child grant to ensure they are only those who deserve the grant. For a person to meet the criteria for means testing, their annual income must be at most R60,000. If you’re married, your combined annual income cannot exceed R120,000. The criteria used to determine financial eligibility for each grant are different.
SASSA Child Grant Qualification Requirements

- Primary Caregiver: You must be the child’s primary caregiver, meaning you are responsible for their daily needs and well-being. This can be a parent, grandparent, or another adult who takes on this role. If you’re not the biological parent, proof of primary caregivership through an affidavit, social worker report, or school principal’s letter is required.
