The Difference Between Matric Rewrite and Matric Upgrade The matric Rewrite and matric Upgrade it look like similar but these are two different matric program starting rom their meaning to its functions through this guide you willget to know how they differ from each other.

What Is a Matric Rewrite?

A matric rewrite is sometimes referred to as a supplementary exam and is an opportunity to improve the original matric scores. A rewrite allows candidates to appear only for the subjects they failed in or the ones they would like to improve their scores for. An improved score would grant them a better university as it also improves the Admission Point Score (APS) and offers better job opportunities.

Candidates who choose a matric rewrite must be under 21 years of age and can only rewrite for a maximum of four subjects. This is one point which highlights the difference between matric rewrite and upgrade.

These exams are usually held twice a year, and the applications for rewrites for 2025 will open in October 2024. When the exam schedules are released, candidates need to only appear for the subjects they wish to rewrite.

After candidates receive their new scores, they can apply for a matric certificate replacement to reflect the higher scores.

What Is a Matric Upgrade?

A matric upgrade, also known as the Amended Senior Certificate, is a chance for adults over the age of 21 to improve their original matric score. The age factor is a key difference between matric rewrite and upgrade. There is no limit to how many times one can upgrade their matric.

Additionally, an upgrade applies to those who failed initially and would like to pass or to those who would like to improve their score. Upgrades allow candidates to appear for up to four exams and the freedom to change four exam subjects from their originals. Students cannot drop the compulsory subjects, but they have the option to change the type of mathematics subject.

Once candidates receive their scores, they can apply to combine their scores and reissue the matric certificate with their top scores. This replacement certificate can be used to apply for better job opportunities and higher education programmes.
