What is the UIF?
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of maximum benefits, let’s quickly revisit what the UIF is all about. The Unemployment Insurance Fund is a government-run program that provides temporary financial relief to workers who have lost their jobs or are unable to work due to various circumstances, such as maternity leave or illness.
Both employers and employees contribute a small percentage of the employee’s salary to the UIF each month. When a worker becomes unemployed or unable to work, they can claim benefits from the fund, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
