MQA Overview
The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a statutory body established in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996 and is a registered Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act No 97 of 1998 as amended.
The MQA must supports the objectives of the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) 2020-2030 as guided by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and also supports the objectives of the Mining Charter in terms of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act No. 29 of 1996.
The Quality Assurance Unit has a legal mandate to ensure quality assurance and that the learning programmes within the mining and minerals sector are aligned in terms of the National Qualifications Framework Act of 2008, as amended, and the QCTO-delegated functions, including those on regulated occupations in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
The MQA is responsible for administering a number of skills development initiatives. Skills programmes and learnerships aim to develop a skilled and educated workforce whose skills are recognised and valued in terms of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). This is to ensure that the mining and minerals sector has sufficient competent people who will improve health and safety, employment equity and increase productivity. The following six strategic priorities were adopted by the MQA Board to promote skills development in the sector:

Location: South Africa
Reporting to the Legal and Governance Manager; the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Monitor the implementation of contracts and ensure conformity to contract requirements.
- Liaise with stakeholders and service providers regarding signing, monitoring and termination of contracts.
- Track and manage contracts and advise relevant users of the termination and expiry periods.
- Ensure correct filing of all legal documents.
- Monitor legal, compliance and corporate governance risks workshops, conferences and promotions as required by the Legal and Governance Manager.
- Liaise with department and units and provide the required legal, corporate governance and compliance support.
- Attend to and prepare necessary documents for information sessions pertaining to legal, governance and compliance matters.
- Assist with the rollout of MQA Policies to MQA staff members.
- Proactively identify customer needs and opportunities.
- Ensure sound communication with, and participation by, service providers and stakeholders through regular contact in appropriate service delivery processes.
- Collaborate with line managers of business units / teams to ensure a consistent query resolution approach.
Who are Eligible to Apply MQA Internship Application 2025
- A grade 12 or matric certificate.
- A bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Legal or Corporate Governance or an equivalent; and
- (NQF Level 8) in law will be an added advantage.

The candidate must possess the following:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- An understanding of legislation and developments pertaining to education and training.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- A proactive attitude.
- Ability to pay attention to detail; and
- Proficiency in MS Office packages.
